Our Favorite Hikes and X-Country/Snowshoeing Trails

Mayflower Gulch: (beginner to intermediate) Take I-70 west to Leadville/Copper Mountain exit, follow road towards Leadville. Approximately 5 miles up the road on your left is a parking area for the trail. If you come upon a lake/pond on your left, then you have gone too far!

Mesa Cortina: (beginner to intermediate) Take Hwy 6 to the north side of I-70. Turn left at the 7-11. Just past the river, turn right and then an immediate left (you should be between the car dealerships). Take Buffalo Mtn Rd until it forks (about 1 mile). Go right at the fork. Go right at the T. The trail parking is on your left 1/3 mile down this road.

Lily Pad Lake: (great summer beginner trail for children; great snowshoeing trail or intermediate x-country trail) Take Hwy 6 past I-70 and turn left at the 7-11. Take this main road all the way up the mountain past all the condos (about 3-4 miles) and the trail parking will be on your left.

Peru Gulch: (great summer drive to reach mine and hiking trails; great trail for novice x-country skiers who want a flatter terrain and to look at mines) Take Hwy 6 past Keystone ski area and turn right onto Montezuma Road and then left at the fork. Follow this road about 4-1/2  miles. The parking area will be on your left (it comes up quick around a turn).

Boreas Pass: (great summer drive with spectacular views; beginner to intermediate winter trail) Past Breckenridge to Boreas Pass Road (last road after the main downtown) and turn left. Follow this road until it dead ends at the top/parking area.

Remember to wear sunscreen and drink LOTS!!! of water.
Keep in mind that Colorado's weather can change quickly. No matter what your outdoor activity, make sure you bring an extra layer of clothing with you. Whether it is a sunny or cloudy day always USE SUNSCREEN. Remember you are anywhere from 7,000 to 14,000' above sea level and the sun is much more intense than you realize. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. Some people experience high altitude sickness; drinking plenty of water will help you stay hydrated.
